Once upon a time, there was a penguin who was very sad because he couldn't fly. This sadness bothered him so much that he decided to travel the world until he learned to fly.
During his journey, he meets all kinds of amazing creatures. He searched for every kind of flying creature from the strongest condor to the smallest insect, but nothing could teach him to fly. When she realized that no one could teach her to fly, she fell into despair and wept bitter tears.
As he lay there, he saw a snake basking on a nearby rock. Since he had spent all his time talking to flying creatures, he had never seen a snake before. The moment he looked, the snake coiled itself up. To his surprise, he saw that the creature had no legs.
"Excuse me." said the penguin. “I have never seen a creature like you before. Are you?"
"I am a snake." replied the snake. "I have never met a creature like you either. Are you?"
"I'm a penguin. I have come a long way to learn to fly, but I failed.” Saying this, the penguin started to cry again.
"I'm sorry you're so sad," said the snake soothing his new acquaintance, "but why do you want to learn to fly?"
"I'm a bird." sobs penguins. “Almost all other birds can fly, so I want to fly too.”
The snake was confused. "I still do not understand. I am a reptile, and all other reptiles have legs, but snakes do not. I never thought of spending my life trying to get legs off another reptile."
The penguin's cry slowed down as he thought about what the snake had said. He thought of the friends and family he had not seen in years. He thought about all the time he had wasted being unhappy with who he was, and realized that the snake was right.
"Thank you my friend." he said to the snake. "You have given me the answer to my problem!"
The snake was even more confused. "Did I teach you to fly?" He asked.
"Even better!" the penguin exclaimed excitedly. "You've taught me how not to fly!"
Seeing the look on his new friend's face, the penguin explained. “For years, I first thought of myself as a bird, not a penguin. If I could fly like all the other birds, I couldn't be a penguin anymore and I would never see my family and friends or my home again."
The penguin thanked the snake and rushed home to make up for all the time he had wasted.
As the snake curled up in the sun, he thought, "If I could walk like that penguin, I might travel the world looking for legs." but he didn't. Instead, he sleeps in the sun and dreams of flying.
